Chelsey Smith

Chelsey Smith is an Associate Attorney and a native of Moore, Oklahoma. Her interest in energy law began while in law school at the University of Oklahoma, where her coursework in oil and gas helped shape her career path and ultimately led her to her current role at Cantrell Law Firm.

Chelsey graduated cum laude from the University of Central Oklahoma and worked with a local OKC firm before attending OU Law. Her legal work during law school spanned a wide range of practice areas, including a judicial internship with an Oklahoma appellate court and positions with several Oklahoma firms specializing in probate and estate planning, commercial transactions, real estate, and energy law.

In addition to her professional experience, Chelsey was heavily involved in competitive legal programs while attending OU Law. She competed on the Appellate Lawyers Association Moot Court Team in Chicago and advanced to the Elite Eight of the Whitten Burrage Negotiation Competition. She was honored as a Dean's Leadership Fellow and an Oxford University Scholar.

Chelsey first joined Cantrell Law Firm as a legal intern during her 3L year at OU Law, and formally joined the firm as an Associate after graduation. Her energy law practice focuses on oil and gas title examination, due diligence, and curative title work, and she also assists clients with probate and estate planning, business formations, and commercial transaction matters. Title work and probate overlap constantly in Oklahoma, where mineral ownership passes through families by way of probate, and where an estate that was handled incompletely decades ago often surfaces as the title defect that has to be cured today.
